Tony Chen of the Climate Studies Group at the University of the West Indies at Mona, Jamaica is collaborating closely with Sam Rawlins of the Caribbean Epidemiology Centre (CAREC) in Port of Spain, Trinidad.

Tony Chen organized two start-up planning meetings in Ocho Rios, Jamaica for the AIACC-funded project on climate and dengue. This project grew out of collaborations with the CRN.

  • The first meeting on general climate and dengue issues was held on April 21-22, 2002. The participants were Tony Chen, Sam Rawlins, Wilma Bailey, Ulisses Confalonieri, Locksley Lindo, Henry Diaz, Joan Aron, Roger Pulwarty, Joan Rawlins, Michael Taylor, Charmaine Heslop-Thomas and A.M.D. Amarkoon. 
  • The second meeting on the generation of climate change scenarios was held on May 13-14, 2002. The participants were Tony Chen, Robert Wilby, Tom Wigley, Ian King, Ramon Perez and Albert Owino. Ben Santer was unable to attend.

The Caribbean climate database generated in the first year has been shared with Henry Diaz of this CRN and Victor Magaņa at the Center for Atmospheric Sciences, National Autonomous University of Mexico, which is an institutional collaborator in the Mexican component of this CRN. Dr. Magaņa is also the PI of another CRN on Climate Variability and its Impacts in the Mexican, Central American and Caribbean Regions.
